Not bad!  Thanks to Huntsville coach Greg Patterson's Bear Bryant impression and the under-estimating of my alma mater, Buckhorn, for my two misses.  Last week's game results:  Bob Jones-29, Albertville-10 (R)  Butler-  , Johnson-   (R)  Decatur-7, Athens-38 (R)  Grissom-19, Lee-14 (R)  Hazel Green-  , Buckhorn-   (W)  Austin-16, Huntsville-24 (W)  Sparkman-20, Sylvania-18 (R)  East Limestone-10, Tanner-14  Section-  , New Hope-    (R)  MCHS-20, Madison Academy-3 (R)  THIS WEEK'S SELECTIONS  BUTLER vs AUSTIN  Butler fell to the Johnson Jaguars powerful rushing attack. Austin lost to Huntsville. Which team will bounce back?  I'm picking the Rebels.       Butler-21, Austin 14  GRISSOM vs JOHNSON  Both teams won their openers. Grissom eased by the improved Lee Generals. Johnson pounced on the Rebels from Butler.  May be close for a half. Look for Johnson's ground game to control second half.       Grissom-10,  Johnson-24  HUNTSVILLE vs HAZEL GREEN   OK, coach. The Panthers may struggle this season but not against the Trojans.  I still believe Hazel Green will have a better season than '96, but Huntsville has tradition on it's side.       Huntsville-32, Hazel Green-7  LEE vs DECATUR  The Lee Generals almost knocked off Grissom last week. Decatur lost to what looks to be one of the better Athens teams of recent years.  This is a tough one.  The Generals by four.      Lee-17, Decatur-13  BUCKHORN vs SCOTTSBORO  The Bucks are better than I thought.  Scottsboro may be even better than first thought.  Can Buckhorn stop the Wildcats?  Another tough choice.  The Bucks will keep it respectable.       Buckhorn-17, Scottsboro-27  MCHS vs WEST LIMESTONE  The Tigers started '97 with a win over Madison Academy.  West is rebuilding. The game will be close but the Tigers come out on top.       MCHS-14, West Limestone-13  NEW HOPE vs DOUGLAS  New Hope played better football in this season's opener, but lost.  The Indians will learn a lot this year. One of those lessons will be how to lose.       New Hope-14, Douglas-32  EAST LIMESTONE vs HAZELWOOD  East Limestone will a lot of games this year. They almost got one last week by coming within two plays of beating the Tanner Rattlers.  How good is Hazelwood? Rumor is, pretty good.  Hope I'm wrong. East has the toughest two season openers of any school in the state.       East Limestone-14, Hazelwood-28  ATHENS vs COFFEE  The Golden Eagles are for real. This might be a state title year in Athens.       Athens-35, Coffee-7  BOB JONES vs SPARKMAN  The premier match-up of the week.  Played at Sparkman, the game will be a "knock-down, drag-out" affair featuring what may be the two best running backs in the county in Sparkman's Jamil Wallace and the Patriot's Karll Jackson.  A plus for Bob Jones is manpower.  Sparkman's advantage is the home field.  The Senator's will get over the 5-win hump this year but will have to get past Bob Jones first.  Will be a close, hard-fought game, filled with offensive spark and defensive stands.       Bob Jones-33,  Sparkman-24  Until next week.
