 Drama Competition in Miami, Fl.
The Lee High Drama Magnet program is proud to announce its recent 1st place win
at the SETC National drama competition in Miami, Florida on March 8, 1997. The
play presented was "The Chairs" by Eugene Ionesco, an absurd drama. Under the
directorship of Mr. Ron Harris, this places Huntsville at the top in national drama
comepetition! Mr. Harris and his students swept the individual awards and won best
director, best ensemble, best costumes, among others. Jenny Tidwell, a senior, won
 best supporting actress.

Additionally, Lee High School has been the first school to win two consecutive
William Trumbauer Theatre and Speech Festival 1st place awards. Being a first for
any school to succeed at this in the competition's 56-year history, this is a historical
event for not only Lee High School, but the community of Huntsville, Alabama. This
event is held each year at the University of Montevallo.

The Lee High Magnet Drama program also made its debut on television with the
documentary "Teens Rock the Cradle," produced by Girls Inc. of Huntsville
Alabama, a presentation aimed at curbing teenage pregnancy. Other recent
prductions included "Mary of Maple Hill," a historical drama, written by Pat Bevins, a
local teacher at the Academy for Science and Foreign Language. It was co-directed
by Ron Harris and Connie Voight.

On Monday, May 5, 1997, the Drama Magnet Parents Booster Group held its
second annual Academy of the Stars' Awards Night, honoring community supporters,
Mr. Harris and the students. This gala event hosted approximately 100 attendees,
with the graduating seniors paying special tribute to Mr. Harris.
