Three Months Can Make an Incredible Change

By Doug Rose, forward by Greg Sharp

This article describes how one man made a complete change in how his body looked. He lost body fat and replaced it with muscle to give him a physique anyone would be proud to have.

If you are looking to make a significant change in your life, you can do it if you are willing to make the sacrifices to achieve that change. I have found one person who mastered himself to achieve a lifelong goal of getting in shape and I am willing to bet that he could help guide you to a higher fitness level. Doug entered a contest with EAS in which he had to use EAS products to transform his fitness level. This is the push Doug needed to initiate the change and the following is his letter to EAS in his entry packet for the contest describing how he made the significant changes you can see in the two pictures of "Before" and "After." The top fifty contestants will win prizes and the overall winner will be the promotional spokesperson for the EAS products and receive many prizes, including a Lamborghini. From September 28, 1996 to May 14, 1997 Doug has made some incredible changes in his body, the most notable is a drop in body fat from 15.2% to 9.5% while only losing 3 pounds of body weight (reducing from 197 to 194 pounds. He also had a 10% increase in his aerobic capacity (VO2 max increased from 38.6 to 42.2). Doug worked very hard to achieve these changes and anyone can do this, but many won’t because they lack the focus. If you are willing to try, as a personal trainer Doug will help you reach your goals.

Being personal trainer, I wanted to set an example for my clients. Between the ages of 20 and 30 years, my weight varied between 215 and 265 pounds (depending on which phase of my never-ending yo-yo diet I was on). At the age of 30, I figured it was time to change my lifestyle instead of my diet. I began to work out on a regular basis and within a year’s time I reduced my weight to 170 pounds. After two years of working out, I had reached a crossroad in my life and decided to take a turn (I had worked for Domino’s pizza for 13 years as a driver, manager and area supervisor). I really enjoyed the teaching and training that I had done as a manager and area supervisor. That’s when I made the decision to become a personal trainer. I was fortunate enough to start working with the top persoonal trainer in North Alabama (Billy Wiliams) about six months ago in Dream Body Personal Training. Billy has won numerous natural body building shows and has one simple saying "You can’t teach what you can’t train." In fact, Billy is the one who talked me into entering this contest. He told me I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. Even if I don’t place in the contest, the additional clients I can (and already have) pick up will greatly benefit my income. My goals when I first started the contest were to maintain my weight while increasing my muscle mass and decreasing my body fat. The first eight weeks was dedicated to building mass. Lifting 6 days a week, 1-2 hours a day (depending on the body part I was working) and careful diet including Myoplex Plus, Phosphagain 2 and Cytovol. There were a couple things which were key to this first phase that kept me motivated. I told all of my clients that I was doing this contest as well as telling all of the employees and many of the members of the gym. Many times during my workout, people could hear me grunting out "Lamborghini" on the last few reps of every set.

The final 4 weeks (which I have renamed "Hell Month") consisted of a very strict diet including Phosphagain 2 and a moderate 6 day a week lifting program. (The Phosphagain 2 was the only decent thing I had, I don’t want to see a skinless chicken breast or sweet potato for about six months).

The single most important element of my success is the fact that hundreds of people knew that I was doing this contest. I put my reputation as a trainer on the line. The few times that I felt like straying from my diet, there was that little voice telling me the difference between being a great trainer and an also-ran is my reputation.

Even if I don’t finish in the top 50 places of this contest, I have already won. My personal training income and reputation will benefit for years to come. A heartfelt thanks goes to you people at EAS. This contest was the kick-in-the-butt I needed to put me at the top of the training game.
